the delaware academy of nutrition and dietetics

The Delaware Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (DAND), founded in 1935, is a professional organization comprised of Registered Dietitians (RDNs), Nutritionists, and Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTRs) who reside and/or work in the state of Delaware. 

The state association is the local affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics, based in Chicago. The Delaware Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is made up of approximately 200 members, and is governed by a Board of Directors. In addition to providing education programs for members, DAND is involved with nutrition-related legislative issues that impact the public.

As Delaware's experts in food and nutrition, DAND advocates for policies that improve the health of Delawareans and the nation as a whole. The Public Policy Panel, a subcommittee of DAND, is comprised of the Public Policy Coordinator, the Immediate Past-President, the President, the President-Elect, the State Policy Representative, the State Reimbursement Representative, the State Regulatory Specialist, and the Delegate.

Support for nutrition is not only good public policy, it is good politics. Members of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics have the ability and responsibility to urge consumers and lawmakers to learn about the positive role nutrition plays in promoting and maintaining healthy lifestyles. Nutrition also plays an effective role in disease management and treatment. For both individuals and society, the benefits of eating right and exercising include improved qualities of life and lower health care costs.

We urge you to use the resources provided by the Academy to ensure that your elected officials in Washington, D.C. know your views as both a constituent and nutrition and dietetics professional. Your engagement is extremely important to the success of our agenda — and there are numerous ways to get involved.
